Introducing the Kinvault
For most people, admin can be a bit all over the place. But if you can’t lay your hands on things quickly, how will others find anything if something happened to you? Having a ‘go to’ place to store important documents helps both you and those you love.
About the Kinvault
The Kinvault is a secure online vault that helps you organise and hand over your important life admin to your family when you’re no longer around. It keeps track of what you own and helps loved ones navigate probate more easily.
One of the biggest admin headaches after death is finding the right information. The Kinvault prompts you for everything your family and executors will need to make probate faster and much less stressful.
Each year millions of pounds worth of assets are uninherited because families just don’t know they exist. Keeping a list of what you own and where it is means your loved ones are able to inherit everything.
The Kinvault uses the latest encryption and back-up technology, so your information is more secure than if it was held as laptop files or paper records. And being online means you can access it from anywhere.
What’s in a Kinvault
If someone had to step into your shoes tomorrow, what information would you want them to have? It might be something as simple as what the Vet's number is, or where the backdoor key is - but it should also include your key documents, such as your Will and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
All your critical legal documents, from your Will and Lasting Power of Attorney to things like the deeds to your house or details of any trusts you’ve set up.
An inventory of all your worldly goods, including properties, bank accounts, investments, life insurance policies, pension information and any company shares.
A list of the amounts and dates of any gifts you’ve made which may be subject to the seven-year inheritance rule.
Names and contact details for your executors, beneficiaries, and key advisers (eg financial adviser or solicitor) as well as particular friends or family members.
If you have a care plan in place, this is where you keep any documents you may have prepared, including last day wishes and resuscitation instructions.
Utility providers, car documents, where you keep your spare house key, instructions for your pet – record all the practical areas of your life that your family will need to sort out for you.
Help your family arrange your funeral, from details of any pre-paid funeral plans to hymns, songs, music, readings and a list of people you would like to attend.
Add specific notes to be passed on to the special people in your life, or upload recorded messages for them.
Security
We Are Cyber Essentials Certified Plus. Cyber Essentials is a Government backed scheme which focuses on technical controls designed to guard against the most common internet based cyber security threats. By displaying the Cyber Essentials badge it means we have put measures in place to protect not only our own organisation, but also the security of our clients, by meeting a UK Government endorsed standard.
We use Amazon Web Services (AWS) to store your data, which is considered the gold-standard for secure data storage. All our data is stored in UK-based datacenters (served over HTTPS / SSL).
All data is fully encrypted, both when it’s uploaded and when it’s at rest in your Kinvault. This includes the content of any files you upload. We use the industry standard for secure encryption (a symmetric algorithm based on Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) in Galois Counter Mode (GCM) with 256-bit keys).
Access to our database uses encryption comparable with physical military grade security. Database access keys are secured in hardware security modules (HSMs) providing AES-256-GCM encryption.
Our platform is regularly penetration tested by a third party using the Immuniweb platform. We have significant audit trailing to preserve any changes to data.
Robust web application firewalls (WAFs) are in place to protect our front-end applications and APIs to prevent malicious traffic from entering our platform.
We have strict CSP (Content Security Policy), strict-transport-security headers, and API Access is restricted via CORS (Cross Origin Resource Sharing). Kinvault is also on the HSTS preload list, so can not be served without HTTPS on modern browsers.
Multifactor authentication (MFA or 2FA) is used to access your Kinvault, which means you’ll be asked for at least two different forms of verification when you log on. We use a time-based one-time password (TOTP) via an app on your phone, with back up via a text message or email.
Accessing your confidential data after your death requires an identity check and a valid notice of death or death certificate, unless you’ve specifically told us to release information earlier.
We never share any of your data with 3rd parties without your express permission, and you can specify how you’d want us to act if an attorney or executor requests information. Data changes are fully logged.
